Station- and ship-management products are unavailable for new orders while the independent review of maintenance practices announced on 19 October 2026 takes place. Read the company’s statement.

TriOptimum station- and ship-management systems run the everyday business of a crewed facility: life support, access between decks, logistics, scheduling and, aboard vessels, navigation and resource allocation. Each system is licensed with the Turing Registry by the facility’s operator, and each is built with an ethical constraint module that must remain active and unmodified for the license to remain valid.

What the review will cover

  • How changes to a system’s constraints are requested, approved, made and recorded.
  • Whether any channel allows one licensed system to modify another, and whether each such channel has been disclosed.
  • How incidents are reported to the Registry within the 72 hours that every license requires.

The review is independent of management and reports to the Board’s Systems Safety and Licensing Committee. Its conclusions will be published.

For existing customers

Systems already in service with customers are not affected by the pause in new orders and remain supported by Orbital & Research Systems’ mission operations team in Houston. Any maintenance that could affect a system’s ethical constraints now requires a ticket and the written approval of the Chief Systems Integrity Officer before it begins, and customers receive a copy of every ticket raised against their systems.

Background

TriOptimum introduced its first licensed station-management system at Citadel Station in 2019, and a ship-management system aboard the research vessel Von Braun in 2022. Both licenses were revoked by the Turing Registry on 19 October 2026. The company intends to appeal. The Registry’s conditions for any future application, which include an independent audit of maintenance practices, tamper-evident logging of every change to a system’s constraints and the disclosure of any channel through which one licensed system can modify another, are reflected in the scope of the review.
